... place the first recovery dvd into the tray and restart the pc tap the <Esc> <key> select dvd from the boot menu (if it exists) [press enter]

... if it does'nt boot off from the dvd restart then tap either the <F2> or <F3> <key> to enter your bios and alter the bootup order sequence to cdrom/dvd as first option, save settings on exit of bios.

I booted from the "Back Up" from disk 1, then inserted disk 2 when asked. When it is about 92% done it gives error - unable to retrieve model information and exits.

Your help in this respect is greatly appreciated.

Yes these dvds were created on the same notebook and contain the original Vista that came with the notebook.

1. When booting without dvd its gives message "Recovery tools are being launched - please wait" and after a little while is displays " A Recovery disc or recovery partition cannot be found" and when "ok" is pressed and it shuts down.

2. If f8 is tapped while "loading windows files" it gives the normal options of booting to safe mode, ....... normal loading etc but each of the options result in as point 1 above "Recovery tools are being launched" and "Recovery partition not found...".

Thanks and regards,
