Strange problem with Vista. It might be faulty wiring in my house as the house is fairly old but when I set the computer to sleep or even hibernate as soon as I turn off a light in the room or the heat kicks on the computer is "reawakened". In XP when I went into hibernate, the computer was shut down. Anything I was working on was saved in memory. Not the case in Vista. If it was just the wiring in the room, I thought maybe a dedicated line to the computer might help but if the heat turning on has that affect I don't know. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks for any ideas.

Windows Vista Sleep is different from XP in that it combines standby & hibernate as mentioned in the Vista documentation/help. Sleep writes the system state to the hard disk, then goes into stand by.

I'm not familiar with how Vista's Sleep mode works, but normally, you shouldn't use Standby or Hibernate on a desktop machine.
I've never found any need for Sleep mode anyway. I just manually configure the Power Options.

It works like pausing a DVD player, says HERE. The idea behind sleep is to chisel some money off your monthly electricity bill. How muc do you really save if you burn a nightlight instead of a standard bulb?
