Hello,

I'm just getting into using Laptop Computers and I was just wondering if when my Laptop is in Sleep Mode, does it waste battery power?

No not really, but Vista uses a new function called Hybred sleep it combines hibernation and sleep, it combines the best of both worlds, which is suppose to lower the power even futher then regular sleep, but it may or may not be enabled on your system. You might be using regualr sleep by default instead of hybred sleep.

To find out if you are using hybred sleep or regular sleep go to control panel/power options. Then in the "select a power plan options" select which one it is checked on and click on "change plan settings". Next click on "change advanced power settings" then minus "sleep" if you see "Hybred Sleep" then it's already enabled, minus "Hybred Sleep" and make sure it's on.

If you don't see hybred sleep then do the following to enable it.

Click Start, All Programs, and then right click on "Command Prompt". From the context menu click on "Run as administrator". If User Account Control prompts you to allow the action, click on Continue. In the command prompt window, type "powercfg –h off" (or "on" without the quotes) followed by Enter button. Close the Command Prompt window and you're done.

Now repeat the second paragraph to get back into "change advanced power settings" Go minus "Sleep" and turn on "Hybred Sleep".
