Comment:

I have a compaq desktop computer with os: vista. Once i first turn it on, varies between 5min to an hr whatever i'm doing on it whether its word programs or games it turns off automatically and then turns back on. Does this a few times then sometimes it comes up with a blue screen but by the time i try and read what it says it turns back off again and repeats the process as before. Can someone please help? as i have no idea what to do.

OS is stated as Windows XP, but problem is with Vista. Is this true ? Do you have a dual-boot system or a system upgraded from XP to Vista ?

If XP is/was working right but Vista is problematic, then you may assume this is a driver issue. Who installed XP and Vista ?

The problem could be caused by overheating, check the tempreture in bios.
Try puasing the screen when error shows, which could help identify the problem.

Sorry, yes that was a mistake. My PC runs vista. I bought the computer with vista already installed about 1 - 1 an half years ago. It also does a long beep and a short beep sometimes when its trying to start up.

I did consider it may have been an overheating problem, but everything seems to be at normal temperature.

I have a feeling that it could be either a motherboard or ram issue. I have had the ram replaced by a technician before so could it be that again?

Why was the RAM replaced ??
Over heating is the most likely cause. You say temps are alright but where is this statement based on. Do you have a temp application running while you are working ??

The ram was replaced to put a bigger storage on it. I do have a temp and application manager that came with the computer when i bought it.

Yesterday i took it down to the local computer technician, and after a few tests, he said that the ram was faulty, he was going to replace it today and i'll pick it up next week. So i spose i'll just have to wait to see if that solved anything. lol
