When Vienna comes out in 2010 the next generation of Windows will only be two years away and you'll ask the same question again! Throw caution to the winds, be brave go for Vista NOW!

Once I thought I was wrong, now I'm not so sure!

If you hesitate to opt for Vista because you hear some criticsm from some guys, you will hear the same criticism about Vienna from the same guys when Vienna is out and your hesitation will continue.

If you have a CPU above 2.0GHz range, a RAM of about 2.0GB, and a decent graphics card such as Nvidia FX5200 with 128 MB RAM, then you are ready to go for a full-blown Aero interface and decent experience.

If you are too hesitant, then you can at least wait for Vista SP1 which is around the corner.

Your only problem might be some some lazy software vendors not upgrading their software if you happen to have one installed at the time.

If you are a gamer, I hear that Vista is not good at games when operated with Aero interface. I also hear that with Aero turned off, games are no problem at all.

Hope the above helps.

If you play the waiting game, then you will always be chasing. Vienna may and i stress may be out by then, but don't count on it being released anywhere near the time Microsoft set a date for it to be released. Vista was a prime example of that. Hell, Vista was orginally suppose to be released about 3 years ago.

The one you have isn't the official RTM version. It's only Release Candidate that is coded to implode on or before June 30, 2008. The official Vista SP1 is expected to be made available sometimes this year.

You mean Longhorn before it was abandoned ;-)

Why fix what isn't broken? Do you need to upgrade, is different than, do you want or would like to upgrade.

In most cases you may be better off to purchase a complete system with a new OS.

Be sure you understand your eula in each purchase.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

Vista is absolute crap. It's the ME of this century.

Go with XP Pro and wait the 4 years it will take MS to get the kinks out.

Coming home from very lonely places, all of us go a little mad: whether from great personal success, or just an all-night drive, we are the sole survivors of a world no one else has ever seen.

Yet another unsubstantiated rant from more than likely a Vista non-user or -- at best -- a clueless Vista user .... quite entertaining indeed!

I have Vista on a new laptop, only because it came with it already installed. I'm waiting for SP1 for Vista to see if it corrects minor problems that I'm having. If I were building a system, I'd use XP Pro, SP2.

BTW, I don't think there is a Vienna anymore. M$ changed the name to Windows 7 some time ago.

Don't squat with your spurs on!
