Hi,

Does anyone have experience with sharing a folder on a machine running Vista (business) over a network with another machine running XP Pro. Here's what I have set up:

Vista machine, XP machine and DSL modem connected to Ethernet hub. Both machines set to same workgroup ("WORKGROUP"). Both machines are able to connect to network so I know the hub is working fine.

I have set sharing on the Vista machine for the folder I want to access on the XP machine. I added the user name of the user signed on to XP machine and set permissions for the Vista folder for this user.

PROBLEM:
XP machine shows Vista machine in Windows network but I get an error message when I try to browse or connect directly to specific folder.

Cannot see XP machine in network from Vista machine.

Anyone know if I've missed a step somewhere?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Ellie

Yes, I ran network set up wizard on XP machine. Couldn't find a set up wizard on the Vista machine, though. But the network seems to be set up since it sees the DSL modem that's attached to the same hub.

Is there a specific set up wizard to run?

Try to turn on File Sharing on your Vista machine by right click on the Network icon on your desktop and go to properties. You'll see a list of items under Sharing and Discovery. Play around with it. =)

Does anyone know whether you have to do something at the firewall to allow sharing? I think I saw something on another forum that mentioned something about that.
