Settings Not Saved

Several times, every time my PC reboots, it forgets which program opens rtf files. It asks me to find a program each time. I select wordpad, and check the "always use this program to open this file type" option, yet it forgets after the next reboot. Does anyone know what is wrong? Thanks in advance.
Summary: Well, I updated the drivers and now it appears the settings are saving. Maybe it had to do with the drivers... I though the dead zones settings was a universal vista feature, maybe it isnt. ...
