I'm fixing a computer for a customer. I've seen similar before, and fixed, but this time its got me stumped.

Customer alerted me to the problem. He cannot access the internet, and the firewall wont turn on. I had a looked and noticed that certain services weren't running. I tried to start them manually, they all failed.
Ran a chkdsk, it fixed a couple issues, but services still wont start.
Ran a sfc scan, it returned with an error it cannot fix some corrupted files.
Cannot run any malware virus scans, as cannot access internet to update definitions.

Also customer mentioned he been getting some blue screens randomly, maybe 1 or 2 every few days. Performing a physical dump. I'm running memtest on the memory tonight. But dont think it would stop services from starting.

Did a vista upgrade repair install with a vista sp1 dvd. Fixed all the errors with services.

Info on how to do this in link below.

For future reference:
If you can’t start the computer because of a possible virus, create the latest Linux Avira Antivir Rescue CD on another computer, here http://www.free-av.com/en/tools/12/...

Once downloaded, insert a blank CD-R in the drive, double-click on the filename and follow the prompts to burn it. The file is about 50MB in size. Boot from it and when the loading has finished, click on the flag/language of your choice, then Start Scanner. Depending upon your computer, the scan will take about 30 minutes.
