Hello,

I have a strange issue where when I right click a file and choose send to (it stalls for a few seconds) and then shows me common apps and locations, three of which are mapped network drives.

I have gone to all known locations for Send To folder but the network locations are listed in it; therefore, I cannot remove these entries from send to.

Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

Many Thanks.

Cartman

There are two ways to get to the SendTo folder where you can delete or add shortcuts for the right-click context menu:

1. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder c:\users\YOUR ACCOUNT\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo

2. Using the keyboard:

a) Simultaneously press two keys ΓΏ+R together to bring up Run command.
b) In the Run command, type in Shell:SendTo
c) Hit Enter key.

Let us know if the above help.

Sorry for the typo. I meant to say the folders do NOT show network drives in its contents. Still the advice you gave was what I am looking for.

NO dice. I go into that folder and everything is showing there except the mapped network locations. So there is nothing to delete, yet these mapped locations are still showing in my Send To dialogue.

Short of a reg hack, I cannot think of what else to do ....any other ideas?

The only thing left actually involves hacking Windows registry. Here, you will need to create a new DWORD (32-bit) value named NoDrivesInSendToMenu. By following THIS article the hack is easy to accomplish. Be aware that the DWORD NoDrivesInSendToMenu merely hide the mapped drives; it does not remove the drives.

Also I left out the third option that you can use to access the SendTo folder. All you need to do is create a shortcut and add ...
"%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo"
... as the command line path.

Again, please Let us know if the above works for you.

Thank you, Xp/VistaUser.

The reg hack worked like a charm. Now the Send To option does not freeze up the menu anymore.

Wonderful!! Thanks for posting back.

By the way I prefer CopyTo and MoveTo over SendTo. They are much more useful than what SendTo does. I encourage you to read the following article. The article includes registry edit for each that automate its merge into Windows registry. You will like it.

Add CopyTo / MoveTo on Vista Right-Click Menu
