Subject: Safely Remove Hardware Hard Drive?
OS: Vista 32
CPU/Ram: DualCore2
Model/Manufacturer: EVGA 680i
Comment:

I just built my first computer. I had no problems at first. I have a 500GB Seagate Barracuda SATA hard drive that showed up as such under Device Manager after the inital Vista install. It is the onl hard drive installed. After I hooked up my computer to the internet, the auto windows updates took place. After 37 updates were installed, I got the Safely Remove Hardware icon for my hard drive. Under device manager, now there is no manufacturer name of the drive... just the model number. And now it is labeling it as a SCSI device. I tried a utility from the Seagate website, but it did not work for me for some reason. Is there a performance hit on my drive now that is is labeled a SCSI device? And is there anyway to keep the Safely Remove Hardware icon from coming on?

in the new vista computers, all sata devices are labeled scsi. even the combo burners are.
look in prgram features, 'turn features off/on' see if theres a box to turn it off

I went to windows features, but saw nothing related for hard drive. I will try the edit registry.

I tried the edit registry from the website, but there is no "nvata". I did a search of the entire registry. It does say the fix is for GeForce 4 boards.. and mine is a GeForce 6(EVGA 680i). I tried anyway, but could not find "nvata" under that key.
