Comment: Hi all. I just purchased a brand new toshiba laptop and my question is this. I do not want all the pre-loaded bullSh*t that they have installed on my computer for me. So i was thinking about formatting my hard drive and starting over. My only problem is the computer didnt come with a physical Vista CD. So what I did was download the RTM version of Vista from a bittorrent site. I was wondering, would the OEM key from the bottom of my laptop work with the RTM version of the CD? Thanks for the help. ps. I dont agree with piracy, I am not stealing. I have a legal Vista key, the computer just didnt come with a CD. Thanks again, Ryan

Reply: (edit)What pre-loaded bullSh*t are you talking about? If you meant the third party OEM bloatware, they are easy to remove. In fact I just completed working on the fourth laptop this week doing just that (good for me - it bring home the extra bacon :-)). As for using the Vista COA sticker on the Toshiba, COA key is not the same as Vista product key and will not work with RTM CD. BTW I happen to have a Toshiba and my Vista is running beautiful with no preloaded bloatwares. i_Xp/VistaUser

Reply: (edit)A Laptop should of came with a restore disk, or a vista OEM disk. You need to call toshiba customer service and see if they will send you a oem disc. I wouldn't chance trying to install the pirated version and use that key, your chances are it probably wont work. Try the customer support, it will probably work better for you. page listed below. http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Pa... Jim R

Reply: (edit)what really escapes my logic: why are folks still buying computers without the OS installation disk??? system restore disks are just not good enough! can't even boot into the (often vital) recovery console. a quick word with the sales rep, threatening to call off the deal if that disk is not included, works miracles! no contribution to a possible solution as there is none (Vista OEM keys don't work with RTM), just my rant.

Reply: (edit)only Vista drivers available at Toshiba's support page, but all is not lost: download and run SIW. gather information about your hardware (e.g. graphics adapter, sound card, NIC, chipset, etc.) and download the XP drivers from the part manufacturer's websites.

Reply: (edit)They stopped giving out CD's awhile ago. I really dont know why. If the customer receives a CD-key, they should receive a CD?!?! Makes sense, no? I guess companies dont want to pay the $.50 extra to burn one, or dont have the rights from Microshaft?
