restore OS without cd. drive do not work

Specs: Windows Vista, 512 MB
Toshiba laptop cannot boot successfully. seems anti-virus software has deleted OS file. CD-drive does not work at all. it cannot boot from external drive as well. old laptop used since 2004 and i've not been able to copy any documents. what options do i have to restore OS.

First of all you should try to reinstall OS from a flash drive(stick) you can find many sites where explains it how to make it bootable and everything. If that does not work try what i have done whit a friends old laptop install the OS through network LAN it explains how to vary easy on the following site

If you can boot to pxe then you may fix it that way.

If you remove hard drive you may be able to fix it that way.

Problem is you need some restore media. May have to contact OEM to get it if still available.

... are you getting any error message(s) when you try to bootup?

... if you tap the <F8> <key> @ bootup select the repair option.

... also try holding-in the (click >>) zero <key>

Thanks so much to you all for the useful information. Unfortunately, I'm travelling now and so trying to get my brother to use the tips you've given to reboot the laptop. I'm kinda positive it'll work out. I'll keep you all updated on the outcome soon as I can.
