Specs: Windows vista
Hi! I've a dell inspiron 1525 laptop with windows vista as the os. when some process was running i accidentally shutdown my laptop. Also the names "svchost.exe" and "rundll32.exe" were renamed by me.Now the problem is that i couldn't get anything on the screen except the booting options, when restarted. I've also launched system repair, also tried to enter through safe mode, but couldn't see anything except a blank screen. Kindly help me to sort this problem.

Use a Linux Live CD (such as Puppy Linux). Set your machine in BIOS to boot from the CD as first option. Put the Linux CD in the drive and boot. You can then use Linux to rename the files back again, assuming you know where they are located.

Having said that, it seems odd to me that Windows let you rename them at all while it was running. How did you manage it and what on earth was your reason for doing so?
