I have had a dual boot with XP Home and Vista Ultimate since January 29th. Whenever I go back to the XP side I loose my Vista Restore Points.

As Vista Ultimate has become more and more stable with updates, I find that I never go back to the XP side any more.

My system has a C drive for Windows XP (separate drive), D & E partition for data, and a V drive for Vista on separate drive.

I would really appreciate help if someone could tell me how I can eliminate the XP portion of my dual boot leaving me with Vista Ultimate only.

I have read how you can reduce the time given before the system would go into Vista from thirty seconds to zero. From what I have researched, this would in effect eleiminate the screen asking you to dual boot between Vista and XP.

Can I just delete the XP drive by reformatting. My Vista Ultimate is a full version and did not require having XP installed before I set up the dual boot.

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Even if you now do not go back to XP as much as you did in the past, I would still suggest you keep the dual boot for contingency purposes -- you just might need it, trust me on that. For now though, bump Vista's position within the boot menu listing so that it is the default OS to load. This way, you wouldn't need to tap up or down every time you restart the system.

With Vista? You are kidding, right? No complex OS can ever achieve a superfast bootup time like that. What were you reading?

XP User,

I'm sorry I didn't phrase it properly but what I meant was that I can reduce the time from 30 seconds before selecting to boot into Vista. I would think if it was set at zero that the option of dual booting would be negated. It would automatically go in to Vista.

Sabertooth. I see your point. As I have plenty of hard disk space, it might be to my advantage to leave XP on the other drive just in case something happens to the Vista installation. At least I would have something to work with. Thanks for the comments from both of you.
