hi techs....at the moment i,m running Vista 64
and i would like to re-install it to clean it up, so
can u tell me in detail the exact procedure to
re-install vista 64 OS while it is already
installed on my pc....i.e. do i just put the
original OS disc in the drive and let in overite
everything,,? do i need to disable anti-virus
while this is carried out? ...

do you want to keep anything, or a full clean install?

hi taco i want to do a clean install cos my files automatically r
stored at Nortons server so i can restore them after a clean
install ....also could u show me both ways...i.e. clean
install.......2. re-install keeping existing files...! many thanks..!

ok, for a clean instal you have 2 options:
1. run your vista installation disk from windows and select install.
2. run the installation disk from boot. go into your bios and set the first boot device as cd rom, and restart.for keeping existing files, you will have the option when installing from boot if you want to format you hard drive or install on a partition of your hard drive. select the partition, and windows will create a folder called windows.old which you will find in c:/my computer/

thanx very much taco i,m presuming that i dont need to disable
anti-virus protection while i re-install OS....! thanks very much for
your time.:)

you're welcome
you shouldnt have to, but if you're re-installing within windows, and come across any errors or problems, then i'd suggest disabling it
