Comment:
If I have to reinstall vista basic (upgrade) because of a crash or something do I have first install another version of windows first to install the upgrade because it has to be loaded within a windows os. If this is a true statement is there a workaround. I did not save the old version of windows when I loaded vista. If I had left the old version on there like it suggested legally could I have still put that version on another pc? I hope this posting wasn't too muddy. thx

No reason to think that the article's steps won't work, but I was lead to believe you had to select upgrade on the second install otherwise when you tried to activate Windows it would fail because the serial number relates to an upgrade version of Vista which is what MS expect to see.
