I have been preparing to do a reformat and install of Windows Vista Home Premium and thought I would be able to upgrade as I had in the past from Windows 98 and Windows ME to Win XP. I have a separate 160 gig SATA drive that I have partioned and have all my data on D and E drives. The only thing I have on my primary drive C is Windows and program which I understand will have to be installed.
When I upgrade in the past, Windows asked for a previous edition of Windows to verify that I had the right to upgrade. Is this not the way the upgrade will work in Vista. I've backed up my documents, my music, everything except the programs and the operating system.
I have never had trouble installing Windows XP on a system after reformating the drive.
Please advise. Will I need to buy the full version or the upgrade version. I would think the upgrade version.
I have already seen from the Vista Upgrade Advisor that certain programs will not work properly with Vista. After the reformat and installation, I had planned not to install those programs.
Any insight would sure be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
