Specs: Windows Vista, dual core 2gb ram
recently a friend of mine used my system which ran vista. but well, he kind of screwed it up by installing xp. <i had to go to the local store for some urgent work>. luckly he didnt format it so the windows folder of vista is intact. xp is fine but,i cant loose vista as it has too many programmes and files that cant be lost. is there a. is there a way recreate the boot file so that i can boot vista without harming xp as well.
and just for thinking out of the box i cant find boot.ini on xp <i can open using default os boot loader/msconfig.> but really where is that file hidden and what about it in vista.

If you have almost any Vista DVD you can try the repair feature. Boot to DVD and follow menus.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

You don't need to manually edit the boot files. Just install the program & have it reinstall Vista's boot loader, it should detect XP (previous version of Windows) automatically & add an entry for it at boot.
