Hi: I just bought a new computer and it came with Vista Basic. I'm a little disappointed, I thought a brand new computer would be running a little quicker. Now I've learned it takes a lot of resources to run Vista. My question is this: I made my recovery dvd's and I'm wondering if I can safely delete the recovery image on Drive D. And by freeing up that space on the hard drive, would my computer run a little quicker? Thanks for any info.

It will make no difference. You need more RAMs.

No, you need at least 1GB Memory if not 2GB, Vendors should be shot for selling Vista Capable PC's with 512MB Mem!!

Thanks so much for the replies. I have to agree, orbital, they should never sell them if they can't handle the system. But they do. And I spent all my money on the new computer, so I guess I'll have to get used to a slow computer. Thanks again.

You can buy more RAM. DDR2 RAM's prices are dropping, since DDR RAM is becoming harder to find. Could you give us the exact HP model? We can find what type of ram, how much you can safely put in, and how many RAM slots you have.

Hi Reverend Buddy: I have a HP Compaq Intel Celeron 356, Model # SR2150NX. I don't know about RAM slots - where would I find that? Thanks so much for your help.

Webacon-
You can either check HP for their models, or, like I did, I went to crucial system scanner and just looked up HP Presario SR2150NX.
This is what I got.

-DDR2 Memory, either PC2-4200 or PC2-5300 speeds.
-Up to 2GB of RAM
-You only have 2 dual-channel slots. Which means you install RAM in pairs, IE 1GB by 2 512MB sticks.

I'd recommend a pack of these.

Wow, Reverend Buddy, you are a wealth of information. I can't thank you enough. I'll definitely look into those links you provided too. So, I would only have to purchase one memory stick at 512MB as I already have one, right? And then I'll be running with the bare minimum lGB.

Hmmmm! Maybe I should be sinking my money into a copy of Windows XP instead. LOL.

I have to say, this is the best forum ever. I've written to other message boards before, and most of the time I don't even get a reply, let alone step-by-step instructions. Thanks again.

OOOOPS!! Sorry, I should have checked your links first. I see that it comes in a kit -two 512MB's to equal 1GB. Again, thanks so much Reverend Buddy. You are so well named! LOL.

now that the speed issue is answered, I came here for the first part of the Question.
"I made my recovery dvd's and I'm wondering if I can safely delete the recovery image on Drive D." I wanna do it to freeup space.. not for speed. is it a good idea?
