I hope I'm writing to the right forum. I just got a new HP computer with Vista Basic included. I'm trying to create recovery discs through the Recovery Manager, but it just keeps telling me to insert a blank disc. The message I get is: Disc inserted is a rewritable disc. Insert blank. What am I doing wrong? Don't you need to write to a rewritable disc? The only option it gives me is to click Finish and the disc is ejected. I'm using Memorex DVD+RW rewritable. Thanks so much in advance.

Don't use rewritable discs (DVD-RW). Use DVD+R or DVD-R (called blank disc).

:-) NP. By the way the size of HP recovery is about 5.6GB. You will need two DVD-Rs. I just burned mine to one DVD-R DL (double layer) for HP s7700n.

Also, be careful of the brand of media that you use. Some of the more generic stuff may fail out when trying to create the recovery discs on HP systems.

Wow! Thanks for the further info. You're right XPUser, I just made the recovery discs and it took two of them. And I'm sure glad I bought a brand name. Thanks for letting me know that Nevin. Super help. I couldn't have asked for more.

Be aware that you will not be able to create another Recovery CD set. The creator is programmed to run only once and implode itself. Do not lose those DVDs - you never know when you will need them (you can always order it from HP at nominal cost).
