recording from stereo to PC

I would like to record my cassette tape collection from my stereo to my PC.I have a cord run from the stereos line out jacks to the computers line in jack. I can see that the computer is getting the signal from the stereo. What program or software do I use to record ? Do I need to download software for this Please help.Thanks

You'll want to use some software better than the stuff shipped with Vista, that's for sure. As they're tapes. ideally you want some software specifically designed for recording from tapes, as it should help with reducing the hissy noise that you get from taped music. http://www.roemersoftware.com/ you could try that (I haven't used it myself) or google 'audacity', that's a pretty good one I think, and its free, though I'm not certain about Vista compatibility. Anyway, try them out and see what gets you the best results, or try googling for some specific software

Audacity is free and Vista compatible with edditing and noise reduction features, and can save as mp3 as well as wave files.
