Comment:

I have an HP Pavilion Elite m9040n which came with dual hard drives (one of which was supposed to be reserved for holding backup/recovery files). The primary hard drive recently died and was replaced under retailer warranty. Tried to use the system recovery disks (12) and discovered that they were faulty so had to buy a set from HP.

Bios shows it's recognizing both hard drives (although I'm not sure which is master or slave) and the DVD drive. Installed the system recovery disks.

When I go to Computer, it shows one hard drive (C) with a partition (D) called Factory Recovery. It does not recognize the second hard drive in that section, but it does when I click on Properties.

I'm trying to figure out how to get the second hard drive listed in the Computer/My Computer window.

Also, there is data (photos, documents) on that second drive under multiple users. I'm trying to do all of this in a way that I can still save and restore that data to the primary drive. Currently, the Backup & Restore Center is not recognizing the second hard drive in which to do this.

Start, run, type diskmgmt.msc and press enter. Is that drive listed there? If not, you might not have the jumpers set properly.

It shows a second unknown drive that is "not initialized" and "unallocated".
