CPU/Ram: P4/3.1 1gig
Model/Manufacturer: Homebuild
Comment:

Realtek is part of my DFI Infinity 975X motherboard. The audio driver date is 5/4/07 (which could be April or May depending on whether you live in the US or Australia)and the version number is 5.10.0.525.

In XP I have a great deal more facilities (karaoke etc.) than I do in Vista so I determined to down load the Vista drivers from Realtek. In Vista at the moment I have a volume control and that's it... I can't even use a microphone and I can't find a way to test it even.

There does not seem to be any identification process at the Realtek site so I downloaded what appeared to be the right driver file which was about 18meg big.

Having made a restore point I started the install and then I was plagued with requesters telling me that the driver was unsigned and I must have OK'd a dozen of them before I cancelled the install and restored.

My question therefore is how many of these darned drivers can I expect and am I going about this in the right way?

I am seriously considering going back to the trusty XP (never thought I'd say that).

Once I thought I was wrong, now I'm not so sure!

I forgot to mention that when I click "Sound Recorder" in accessories a requester tells me that "an audio recording device cannot be found." Seems I'm up the creek in all directions!

If you are looking for Realtek AC'97 audio codecs for Vista, please follow the link below:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...

The driver date is 28 June 2007.

You can also download the Realtek player separately on the same page if you like.

Well I have downloaded the driver file you have recommended and after I have backed up the entire system I'll have a go at installing. My previous effort ended in a disaster and because I dual boot with XP I was dead scared of shutting down for the night in case I lost my restore points... so I plodded on. This time I'll take no chances.

Regards.

If it's AC'97 codecs you are looking for, then my link will give you what you want. I tested it on my Vista home premium and it works ok.

If you do not boot into XP before you are satisfied with the audio codec drivers, your restore points remain ok. When you are certain that the codecs work properly, then you can boot into XP, which will delete your Vista restore points.

I hope we are not talking at crossed purposes here... I am looking for drivers not codecs!

The description of the download is Vista Driver (32/64 bits) Driver only (ZIP file) and the file I downloaded is 6243_vista_APO.zip

That is it. You can call it drivers or codecs in the case of audio/video components.

6243 is what I installed and it works perfectly.

I unzipped the file and in Device Manager I used the " update driver... " button in the Audio device properties and showed the path to the unzipped files folder.

Thank you suatcini... I discovered also that I had to "show" the path to the unzipped Vista 32 folder as you did and the driver installed as you said it would. I also installed the Sound Recorder and that also works perfectly.

Your help is very much appreciated... thank you and regards.
