Just installed Vista Ultimate as a dual boot with Windows XP Pro. All has gone well except for one slight problem (so far!!)
I have a MSI motherboard that uses the Realtek driver to produce 6.1 surround sound. It works absolutely perfectly in Windows XP.
When I installed Vista, I knew I was going to have to update the Realtek driver. I downloaded the most current driver which is said to work from Realtek's site. It went right in and device manager shows it is functioning properly. My problem is that I am only getting sound from the left and right channel and from the subwofer. I am not getting sound from the rear right or left nor the center channel. On the software that came with the Realtek, there was a grphic showing of the surround sound that would demonstrate the surround sound. I don't get that with the Vista ready driver.
Has anyone been able to make this driver work utilizing surround sound with Vista Ultimate or should I consider myself lucky to have sound and continue to watch for updates.
That is the main reason I dual booted. Thanks for any and all suggestions.
p.s. I have been to their site and have the most current Vista driver.

Is it set right in Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Audio tab/Advanced button?
There you can select your speaker arrangements.
