Subject: Quick Time Active X ProblemOS: Win UltimateCPU/Ram: 2.0/2 gigsModel/Manufacturer: Home Build |
Comment: I am running Vista Ultimate on a home build machine. I have two gigs of ram and over 750 gigs of hard drive space. The system in general runs quite well but I am having a real problem with Quick Time. Every time I click on the Quick Time Player I receive a message box that says "Error 46. Could not load or find the Quick Time Active X Control". I also run ITune which is running fine. I have uninstalled Quick Time several times and have tried reinstalling with no success. I have found some that say they have found the solution but on closer examination don't think it is for a Vista installation. If anyone has experienced this problem and come up with a solution, I would be forever grateful. Thanks so much for taking time to look over this problem I'm having.

Reply: (edit)run regedit go to HKCR\QTOLibrary.QTControl right-click, Permissions add permissions for group "users" set to "Full Control" repeat for HKCR\QTOLibrary.QTControl.1 (You may need to apply same changes to these keys as well) HKCR\QuickTime.QuickTime HKCR\QTOLibrary.QTUtils HKCR\QTOLibrary.QTUtils.1 HKCR\QTOLibrary.QTControl HKCR\QTOLibrary.QTControl.1 Step 1: Download subinacl.msi from the link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Lin... and install it. Step 2: Download my modified version of reset.cmd from here and save the file in 'C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools'. Step 3: Open Command Prompt and type the following without quotes (hit Enter): 'cd c:\program files\windows resource kits\tools' Step 4: Now type 'reset.cmd' and hit Enter (without quotes) You will see the Command Line Tool running for some seconds. The issue should have been fixed and Quicktime should run again.

Reply: (edit)Tried to follow your directions and when I went to C:\program files\windows resource kits\tools I found that there is no windows resource kits\tools. I am running Vista Ultimate. I have seen this repair before and tried to follow it. Problem is as listed above-I can follow through as I find no windows resource kits\tools. Please advise. I really would like to get this problem solved. Thanks for replying.
