Specs: Windows vista
In an argument and need some backup. If you start shuting down your computer, then shut the laptop, it goes to sleep then when you open it again it will continue shutting down yes? what about hibernate? does it stop going into hibernate then continue when you open it again or does it cancel the hibernate and just sleep?

My guess would be it can't be answered. Too many variables would need to be set.

I have confirmed your description with my dell D820.

Closing the lid after shutdown and opening it again multiple times during which the system continued to shutdown until I opened it and just left it open to complete the shutdown.
