If the computer came preinstalled with Vista the the " Product key " is in fact a " certificate of authenticity " and pertains to that one install , If however you have a retail disk then it is a Product Key .
In either case keep it safe as you may need it to reinstall .

"I have product id of my vista home basic is i need activation key for vista home basic sp-1" Not sure what you are asking, are these two different disks? The product key is what you get when you purchase Windows, you enter this when you install it. Activation is done by Microsoft to verify the authenticity of your product. You are prompted to activate online or by phone. An activation key is something you get from Microsoft if you have a problem activating on line for one reason or another, usually when you have reinstalled the OS more then the allowed number of times. You would then phone Microsoft support and explain your problem and if succcesfull they will issue you a new activation code to enter while on the phone.
