Problems with Windows Mail

I can send and receive mail with no problems (that I know of!) via Windows Mail (version 6.0). However, if I click on an email link on a website, I get an error message "cannot perform this operation because the default mail client is not installed properly".
I seem to remember having this problem once with Outlook Express and Windows XP and managed to repair it but haven't been able to find any help with Vista. Any ideas/help please?

Have you made Windows Mail the default in the Start Menu?
If not, right-click the Windows Orb (Start) > Properties > Start Menu Tab > Customize and make the email link point to Windows Mail.
Another way to set the default is Control Panel > Classic View > Default Programs > Set your default programs > Windows Mail (in the left pane) > then look at Set… or Choose…
If it still doesn’t work, try changing a registry key. Click the Windows Orb (Start), type regedit, press Enter and navigate to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail. In the right pane Double-click Default and type Windows Mail as the value data.
