OS: Windows Vista
CPU/Ram: C2D 1.8Ghz, 1G
Product: Dell Dimension 9200
Comment:

I got a new Dimension 9200 with Vista and installed my Promise Ultra133 TX2 IDE controller card in it. I connected it to my old IDE drive containing all the stuff I wanted to restore to the new computer. When I turned it on, the Promise card BIOS indicated it had found the drive, and the next screen was the computer's BIOS screen. After this, it just froze with a black screen.

I turned off the computer, disconnected the drive from the card, and the Promise BIOS screen indicated the Promise BIOS was not installed because it couldn't find a drive. From that point, the computer started up fine.

I installed the Vista drivers for the card, but it's still not working when I connect the drive.

most likely your computer is trying to boot from the old hard drive connected to the controller. not sure about the dimension 9200 bios, but try F12 and choose the correct device to boot from

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

Correct way is to do an ntbackup with system state with the new drivers. Install OS and restore the backup.

Otherwise

You would need to install the proper drivers before you installed the new adapters and also configure the correct files and bios settings to allow the new configuation to boot.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.
