problems reinstalling

having a lot of trouble reinstalling after a virus, formated all went well got up and running began downloading the updates pc restarted a few times, then i had to go out left pc on came back 12 hrs later and it was still configuring updates, restarted the format process again and pc still freezes on configuring updates.any ideas most welcome!! on the initial format i had a message pop up saying windows had found and controlled a virus is this usual?

If you reformatted the hard drive, then Windows should not have given you any message abouty a virus. Did you really reformat and do a clean install of Vista ? You might have to use a tool like killdisk: http://www.killdisk.com/ to completely wipe the hard drive clean.

no it is not usual. if you have formatted a PC you have done it for good and everything on it was erased completely. when you insert vista dvd in order to reinstall your operating system, the wizard does give you the option to format what and to reinstal your vista on the partition you wish...make sure to perform such operations correctly!
