I'm having problems opening .doc files from internet explorer. Whenever I click on a file, it opens using WordPad which then shows alot of jumbled symbols before the text. I want to set my computer to open files using Works or Word, but I don't know how to do so. Even when I try to right-click on the file, it does not give me the "open with" option. Thanks for any help! I have Windows vista
Every time I open a file from internet explorer, the file opens using Wordpad which shows jumbled symbols. How do I change the program from Wordpad to Works or Word? I've tried right-clicking on doc

Right click on the doc file and enter the preferences. Then you'll see filetype = .doc Press on "Change" on the "open with" line. There you can choose what program you want to open it with. If you want the new program to always open it, then make sure to set a ( V ) in the field where it says, always use this program to open these filetypes.
