Subject: Problems installing 64 bit Vista
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2
CPU/Ram: AMD x2 4000 / 1 gig DDR2
Comment:

I just recently bought Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition OEM. My CPU, the AMD x2 4000, can run a 64 bit OS.

I reformated my HD, and booted Vista from the CD. I followed all the steps, as normal. Yet every time i get to the end of the installation, it says the same thing : "The Computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click 'ok' to restart the application and then restart the installation". I have tried dozens of times, and it keeps saying the same thing. I even tried the upgrade option from XP Pro....same thing happens.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

can you retrieve an error code (i.e. 'click here for details') ?

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

That's the thing....there is no error code...it's weird. it just says "The Computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click 'ok' to restart the application and then restart the installation" in a plain window...

Have you tried fdisking the master boot records and fdisking the partition?

i'd download a Windows Bootdisk ISO from google.

Then fdisk the master boot record fdisk/ mbr

Then fdisk

in fdisk i'd delete the partition and then restart my pc with the bootdisk in there and then go back to fdisk again and create a partition. Once that is done take the bootdisk out restart windows put in the vista cd let it install from there.

Check the HCL, vista 64 bit can only use hardware that is signed by MS

Do you think setting my primary boot loader to my HD will make a difference?
