problem with the system booting up

Specs: Windows vista sp1
upon computer start up my computer starts up slower than usual and upon start up i get this message

for realtek rltl8101e fast ethenet network adapter v1.02 (060529)

Pxe-e61 : Media test failure, check cable
Pxe-m0f: existing PXE ROM
Operating system not found

what should i do to get my computer to start working again? is all the data on my hard drive gone?

Check the following in BIOS:

A) the hard drive is recognised

B) the hard drive is first boot device

i looked up the bios and the hard disk drive states that it is not present. does that mean that my hard drive is destroyed and i have to replace it? and if so what are ways i can salvage the data on the hard drive because i know their is a way that i can get the data off the drive although it is not working with my computer?
