Comment:

For some reason all my office icons (Word, excel, PowerPoint, etc) have been replaced by the generic windows icon (the one that has the windows logo on it). How do I get the old (office) icons back?

Someone posted this long time ago and i have the same problem but please look at my comments.

My Comments:
- when you click on the file it open using it's default program normally (whether it was doc or excel etc....)
- when i try to reassign the file type or the file format to its' program, nothing happen
- when i try to assign the file type another program (for example: assign the DOC files to Excel) the file icon change to the excel file format icon (the correct excel icon) but i can't leave it like this cuz the DOC file won't open with the Excel, so i reassign the DOC to it's default program the WIN WORD the file icon turn to the generic icon again!!!
and please be noted that when i assign the DOC files with the Excel and the icon change to the Excel file format icon, the normal Excel sheets files remain with the generic windows icon!!!
it's a very strange problem and i have never faced it before, i really need some help... :)
Thanks to everyone

Tufenuf,
Thank you so much for your fast reply to my problem.
I followed the instructions in this page (your link) to rebuild the icons database on my VISTA and I did.

The old file was about 3.8MB
after i deleted it and restart the new file was about 2.4MB

BUT with no effect on my problem at all, i tried to open files and reassign programs and everything again after the rebuild but with no effect.
I still have the same problem.
Can you help me?
Thank you again
Regards,
Asser
