Problem With File Access

Specs: Windows Vista, Intel Dual Core 2.4GHZ 2 GB Ram
I have an external hard drive and certain files on it are behaving strangely when I try to access them, I think it's screwing up the operation of itunes in that itunes cannot automatically remove files when I delete them or change ID 3 tags. I'm not sure. None of the files have the read only attribute checked but if I try to delete them I get a dialogue box that says: "Destination Folder Access Denied: You need to confirm this operation." If I click "Continue" i get yet another dialogue box that says "User Account Control: Windows needs your permission to continue" "If you started this action continue" "File operation, microsoft windows" How do I get rid of this nonsense and get my itunes and other programs working normally again? Thanks.

I think you need to take ownership of the folders and files in that destination.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
