I want to format my hard drive before i install windows vista, how do i go about this?

I want a completely wiped hard drive before i instal vista ultimate.

Don't worry, your Vista DVD will give you the option to wipe your system partition & recreate it during Vista setup.

i think i've been posting a similiar problem. vista did NOT give the option to wipe the system partition if a previous vista installation is present.

The OPs previous installation in this case is XP, Anyhow, if booting from the installation DVD - you WILL have the option to do that. If you are trying to do it from within Windows, of course Windows will not let you - that metaphorically amounts to asking it to chop itself off at the knees.
