Comment:

I started a thread recently and I received help from two correspondents and although the help they provided was useful it never solved my problem. Subsequently a link posted on another forum provided the answer I needed and I posted the result on my thread and I figured on sending each of the correspondents a private message with the link I had so that they might help someone else with the same problem.

On the bottom right hand corner of each post there is a "Private Message" button but when I click it I get this popup:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...

How does one communicate privately and if this cannot be done what is the use of the button on the reply box?

Maybe I have misunderstood the system in this respect.

Regards.

Once I thought I was wrong, now I'm not so sure!

Oh, wow, that's new (and dare I say, improved). It's in place to keep the discussion open, which in turn provides a history one can search before asking their own question. (Not that anyone actually does.)

Don't worry about PM'ing people on this site. By default, anyone who has posted in your thread will know when anyone else does the same, including you. If they care, they'll have already looked at your thread.

Hello,

That's not new, but Razor is correct about the purpose. If you really need to PM someone, the bolded name in the post is also the My Computing.Net name for the PM.

It must surely be the underlined bolded name (which I had not noticed before) because I certainly can't PM Razor2.3 or yourself Justin. But thank you for the information it makes sense now. But surely the little PM button is therefore superfluous.

Regards.

Ewen,

You cannot use the "Private messge" link on this post because you are the originator of the post but you can go to http://computing.net/cgi-bin/mycomp... Click on "Private Message Center" and enter the bolded name as shown to send a PM from there.

Hey,

You should be able to PM both me and Razor if you use that name when you go into "My Computing.Net" then go to "Private Message Center" and put it into the "To:" field.

Justin
