I can't get my new Dell with Windows Vista to install my Dell 720 Photo Printer. Message states "printer spooler service is turned off". I have deleted the printer all together and then reinstalled it and it still won't install. I have downloaded the proper driver from Dell for the 720 printer to be compatible with Vista, but still won't work. All "help" instructions refer to Windows XP solutions that, of course, do not work with Vista. Any suggestions?

The solution is simple.Wait for the Vista driver from Dell.should be out within a few weeks.

The link is posted but not ready for download.

Or run Services.msc, and check to see if the Print Spooler service is set to automatic and is started...

it may sound simple to you. but do you really expect ppl to put their print jobs on hold until dell delivers printer drivers that may work? lol
if they don't have drivers, ask dell for an operating system that actually DOES support your hardware.
Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

Pretty clear he meant it's technically simple.
I think it's clear even to a brain dead person one could install XP and use that instead since it probably was on an XP machine prior to this, so this doesn't really help. And reverting operating systems isn't simple, either.
And on the flip side, I don't really expect someone to change OS's just to accommodate what appears to be a 5 year old printer either.

Actually printer is only 1 1/2 yr. old. and when I ordered this new desktop from Dell with Vista as OS a month ago, I was told my printer would work fine with Vista. Right. Driver is already available, I've already downloaded it, but still won't install printer because "printer spooler service is turned off". I'll keep trying. Wonder if Dell will exchange this new system with Vista for an XP! I want to go back!!! I have a laptop with XP so I can print if necessary with that, but just very inconvenient. Thanks for suggestions.

I just saw the printer online started to be made in 2002. Obviously, you could buy it from then on.

Again, check the service in Services.msc! Set it to automatic and start the service.
