I need to repair a laptop by replacing the motherboard. My question is, will I be able to reinstall the Vista OS with such a major hardware change?.
Does the OS recognise it as the same motherboard or is there some way the OS logs the hardware that the laptop was originally built with? Thanks for any help.

Is the new motherboard going to be significantly different than the original? I doubt you have a lot of choices for your specific model.
Cheers guys....thanks for your help In answer to your question Riider....the motherboard will be the exact same model as the one i will be taking out.
With the same motherboard it should be fine.
The OS only recognises the hardware on the motherboard which should be the same.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
