I am having trouble booting into Windows because the post screen hangs for three minutes.

Run msconfig and uncheck whatever you don't need to load into memory at boot time.

I managed to boot into safemode after tapping f8 for three minutes, then selected start windows normally, and it still took three minutes, over to you.

You didn't boot to safe mode if you selected start windows normally.
