PocketPC sync w/Win Mobile Dev Ctr

Specs: Vista Home Prem SP1, Intel Core 2 Duo P8400/4GB
My Toshiba e740 (OS:PocketPC 2002) only makes a successful syncable usb connection to my new Vista32 laptop every ~6th or 7th try. With every connection attempt, the device manager recognizes the connection, but the PDA and Windows Mobilie Deve Center don't recognize that connection unless I slide the PDA in and out of the cradle a number of times. I don't think it's a physical issue with the cable or cradle as the Device Manager sees the PDA every time and I can get a syncable connection every time if I use the PDA on an older XP machine running ActiveSync. I'm not doing anything different between connections, literally just sliding the PDA in and out of the cradle until it gets a good connection. Any help would be appreciated.

It could be that your USB ports are underpowered for the unit.

But wait for other answers.

Maybe a powered hub (USB) if you have one or can borrow one for testing purposes.
