PC turned off during Windows Vista update

Specs: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, 1.8 GHz / 1022 MB
Ok first off, I did factory settings because was getting slow. Everything was going well. I re-installed all my drivers, and applications. Then when I did windows update by shutting down, I had 77 updates to install, and my computer randomly shut down. I restarted it, and every time when it goes to window update, it randomly shuts down. So I did a system recovery again. During the system recovery it randomly shut down again. On my 4th try doing system recovery, I took out the ethernet, and turned out successful. Everything is going smooth, but now i turned off windows update. I'm scared to do windows update, but I really want to update my computer? can u help me with my problem?

i personally think you should make a backup of your system and enable windows update again, it probably did that relating to the amount of updates needed, these do do alot of vital changes to your system, so do update
