pc reformat cant get past verifying integrity

Specs: Windows Vista
It will not let me format, I removed the partitions and restarted, tryed to format, system said "need partition" so I am triing to put in a Primary DOS Partition and it will not go past the "Verifying drive integrity" it stays at 0% ( with the odd little flash of an underline beneath Verifying drive integrity)
can anyone help please!!

Are you trying to do this using FDISK? If so that probably won't work because it's a hangover from earlier windows and won't work, especially with modern SATA drives.

If you are doing it from a Vista boot disk then you may also need to install the SATA drivers before you can set it up (downloadable from the manufacturer's website if you haven't got them on a disk)

If neither of the above are relevant, again go to the harddrive manufacturer's website and download any tools available - most have diagnostic and drive preparation tools which you can use to check & set up your drive.
