If I buy a monitor with inbuilt speakers can I speak into it with Skype? or do I have to buy a separate microphone?

I don't recall seeing any new monitors with built-in microphones - Packard Bell used to have a couple that did but that was a long time ago. In theory you can use speakers as a microphone but the quality will be useless so an external microphone is the only realistic option.
