Basically, Microsoft managed to file (in 2005 no less...) AND got awarded
the patent to the Page Up & Down Keys ( on 18th Aug This year 2008).
What will they think of next... they must have a department just randomly
trying to patent stuff..The full article here :

Does Microsoft just look for things to patent? I mean, seriously what was the point of this; just so keyboard companies have to pay royalties to Microsoft just so that we the consumer will have to pay higher prices the next time we want to buy a keyboard?????????
If it's broke, then blow that sucka up!

Cobra,
Bewildering... if MS are in a race to take over the world they are coming second to google in my opinion.
I can't profess to understand the reasoning behind patenting the keys or the key's functionality, but to me it's all a game of chess. I believe to the all omnipotent of the IT world you take the pawns first, the most important pieces in the game, and the rest will fall?
*Shrugs*.... I don't know but it definitely reeks.
You have the shoes but I have the patent on the laces............

I need to patent the any key.
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

too bad i didn't get my legal claws into the "ctrl-alt-del" key combo before Microsoft made it big...

Why Bill Gates Wants 3,000 New Patents

C'mon Cobra,
You should know better. The patent in question is not explicitly for the Page Up & Down Keys. In the political realm, what you just did would be akin to waging a smear campaign aka swiftboating ... LOL

There is no swiftboating about it they patent the functions of these keys.
"Microsoft has just patented the functions of two keys that"
If it's broke, then blow that sucka up!

Patenting a particular "function" of a component isn't the same & shouldn't be misconstrued as receiving a patent for the said component. There are a lot of "low information" individuals out there that won't read the article linked ... but yet, pass your misinformation off--to others--as first hand knowledge.
For example: Richard James is credited with inventing the "Slinky" but you damn well know he didn't invent the coil or spring however you want to call it.

sure, but have you ever tried to get a coil or spring to go up or down stairs? alone or in pairs?

Well saber, who's fault is that? I mean the link is there for clearly everyone to read.
If it's broke, then blow that sucka up!
