Outlook not receiving emails or replies

June 2, 2010 at 19:41:10
Specs: Windows Vista

A week or so ago Outlook stopped receiving emails. I can send emails and I can send emails to myself and get them but cannot receive new emails or replies to me. Everything is configured correctly and the "test account settings" always works fine... all check marks. So I think Outlook may be broken. Please help!

Hi,

Did you try reconfiguring outlook in your machine and check if it works fine?
Are you facing this issue only in your machine? Try configuring Outlook in different machine and check if you are able to recieve emails.

Make sure that you are using the correct Mail Client settings:

> Incoming mail server (POP3/IMAP server): mail.yourdomain.com
> Outgoing mail server (SMTP server): mail.yourdomain.com
> Username: the full e-mail address like email@yourdomain.com
> Password: If you are not sure what your email password is we strongly recommend that you reset it from your cPanel > Email Accounts.

in which email account you are facing this issue? I mean is it corporate email account or free email account (eg: gmail, yahoomail, hotmail etc..)
Check if you are able to recieve email in Webmail.

If it is a corporate email account, you may also have to check with email Quota.
If the inbox has exceeded the limit, you may not be able to recieve any email. and certainly you may have to delete some messages from your inbox from the server( or webmail)

Please get back with sufficeient information so that we can troubleshoot your issue and help you with the same.

Thank you :)

I am having the same problem, so can add a description of my problem but have not yet discovered a solution.

It has recurred the first week of every month now for three months, only the last two times it cleared up around the 6th and this month it is ongoing (since 30th June) and I can send but not receive. I have checked all the settings and verified with my email provider that they are correct, I have given my computer a fixed address on the local network and am using a fixed DNS instaed of the Win. 7 autodetect, I have made sure the server I for incoming emails is POP3 as I am told this is more reliable, I have tried using Thunderbird instead of Outlook, I have stopped Win 7 trying to power manage the ethernet hub, I have disabled firewall, virus checker and spam filter, and then re-enabled them as none of them caused the problem. I have checked with other computers on the same network and different OS (XP and Linux systems) the other computers can download the emails so it is obviously a problem on my Win. 7 pc only.

Any thing else anyone can suggest?

I suspect the problem lies deep in Windows 7 and the way it communicates (or doesn't) with the POP3 server. Note that it has recurred 3 times now at the beginning of a month then cleared up, so what is different at the start of the month that might affect my email, does the server run faster?

I am fortunate that I can also view my emails on a webmail site (and other computers on the network).
