I have outlook as my university email account which worked fine on my old XP computer. Now i have a new one with vista, if i try to write a message the area to write is just blank with a cross in it which means i cant compose or reply to any messages. Any one got any ideas why?

There is no Outlook Express in Vista. It has been replaced with Windows Mail.
