Open With dialog box keeps popping up

February 18, 2010 at 23:35:24
Specs: Windows Vista

I've been having trouble with this "Open With" pop up that always pops up whenever I click a program. (Internet, Notepad, even some Control Panel settings) This pop up asks me what program I should open the selected program with. I thought it was a bit annoying but I got through Notepad and Internet just fine because Internet and Notepad were 'Recommended Programs'.

I cannot seem to get this annoying Open With pop up away and I thought Control Panel would solve it but when I try to go to some options on Control Panel, it gives me that Open With pop up. I was thinking Default Programs was the place to disable this pop up but 'Set program access and computer defaults' won't open due to that Open With pop up. (I don't know what program I should use to open it with because there's no Control Panel programs in 'Other Programs' or 'Recommended Programs')

Here's a picture of this pop up I get every time I click on an important program.

Can anyone tell me how to get this Open With pop up disabled?

I have the same problem, but in order to run the program mentioned, my computer still pops up "open with". Is there anything I can do from there?

Nanner1, Try right clicking that reg file and choose Merge. If that doesn't work when the Open With box appears click the Browse button and go to the C:\Windows folder open it and choose regedit.exe.

I can't run the program...I get the following message:

Cannot import C:\WINDOWS\regedit.exe: The specified file is
not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files
from within the registry editor.
