Office XP won't install on Vista

I uninstalled the factory loaded trial version of Office 2007 Student from my HP notebook. When I installed Office XP I keep getting Error 25003: Microsoft Office setup cannot continue because the installation source has been corrupted. I am sure the install CD isn't a problem because I then used it to install successfully onto a Windows 2000 server computer. Does anyone know how to get around this?

512MB of ram is not enough to run Vista, ram is cheap now so add another 512 as a minumum. Did you fully uninstall the trial version? or just delete it. Office XP should install and work fine on Vista. Try restoring Vista to prior uninstall Office 2007 time and uninstall again and make sure it is fully uninstalled.

I did the uninstall of it in Control Panel and it ran smoothly. The only thing I can see still relating to Office is the Activation Assistant. I've never used it. Not sure if it's preventing me from installing a previous version of Office?? Tks!
Go to the URL below and download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. and run it, it will remove what is left of your trial version of MS Office. Then install your Office copy.
