NTLDR is corrupt message in Windows Vista

September 17, 2010 at 04:18:21
Specs: Windows Vista
I recently contacted a number of viruses that corrupted my computer. I cannot run any programs and receive a number of virus messages. The computer does boot to windows Vista. I decided to run the recovery disc to correct these issues but when attempting to run the System Disc, I received the following message: "NTLDR is corrupt. The system cannot boot." Please help. Thanks.

You may have to go into the BIOS and make sure it's set to boot from the CD/DVD drive before the hard drive.

Are you (or were you) multibooting XP & Vista? The reason I ask is that Vista does not use NTLDR.

This discusses the “NTLDR missing error in Vista”. That is not the same as NTLDR is corrupt, but it still might help. You could try the Vista Recovery Console if you have the DVD.
